TTSL begin deployment of GISIL’s multi-functional terminals
15-Oct-2006
In order to address the vast semi-urban Indian market, India’s leading CDMA fixed wirelessoperator – Tata Teleservices Ltd. (TTSL), has aggressive growth plans pivoted around the provisioning and deployment of Multi-functional fixed wireless terminals providing Voice,, PoS and Value added services to numerous Indian cities. TTSL plans to install these phone-cum-application provisioning terminals at merchant segments like PCOs, pre-paid retail outlets, kirana/grocery stores, etc.
GISIL was awarded a long-term multi-year design and manufacturing contract for the supply of such specialized terminals.
GISIL’s activities for the Multi-functional terminal project covers hardware design, firmware design and testing, payphone application software development, Point-of-sale and browser development activities.
GISIL has built the terminals silicon-up, from selecting suitable processors and operating systems to control systems for all the peripherals. GISIL did the field trials of these terminals on TTSL network.
GISIL has now delivered thousands of these terminals to TTSL for deployment across various merchant locations in India. TTSL has informed GISIL that they have already begun the deployment of these terminals.

GISIL to manufacture POS Devices for the Retail Segment
30-Oct-2006
With the successful deployment of GISIL’s first multi-functional terminal, GISIL has created a new product category of fixed-wireless terminals. Continuing with the success of such terminals, GISIL plans to come out with similar products in this new product category.
GISIL plans to make miniaturized wireless POS terminals which can also act as digital store. On one hand, they will be equipped with the ability to conduct financial transactions over-the-air, while on the other hand they will enable value-added services like mobile pre-paid top-ups, utility bill payments, flight/rail tickets, etc.
The objective of making such terminals is to maximize the value that value chain (telco, banks and merchants) derive from the deployment of PoS terminals. Due to such cost-effective value propositions, smaller merchants, who were left out of the first wave of plain PoS terminal deployments, can now be POS enabled.
